Pulippani astrology
Sage Pulippani was one of the enlightened beings (called siddhar in Tamil) who wrote on astrology. In his 300 Tamil verses on astrology, he describes the basics and important principles of Indian astrology. He was a disciple of sage Bogar, who lived before the start of the Common Era. The important point to note about Pulippani astrology is that some rules expounded by Pulippani are different from those laid down by the north and south Indian classical astrology books. I feel that the writings of Pulippani are authentic and provide a glimpse of the actual astrological rules as practised by the saptarishis as seen in Saptarishi Nadi.

The Sun rules Leo; it is exalted in Aries and debilitated in Libra. Pisces and Sagittarius are the friendly signs, while the remaining seven are inimical ones.
Moon

Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo; it is also exalted in Virgo and debilitated in Pisces. Cancer and Leo are the inimical signs; the rest (seven signs) are friendly ones.
Pulippani’s work in Tamil has been translated into English in the book, “Pulippani Jothidam.” But I disagree with the translation in quite a few verses. For example, the author of that book has translated ‘கடகமரி பகையாம்’ to mean the zodiac signs Cancer and Scorpio are inimical, which is wrong.
Therefore the correct translation would be Cancer and Leo.
Jupiter
Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces. It is exalted in Cancer and debilitated in Capricorn. Libra and Scorpio are the inimical signs, while the other six are friendly ones.
Again, in the book mentioned above, the translation is incomplete. The author of that book has mentioned only Scorpio as the inimical sign, whereas Pulippani mentions கோலும் தேளும், which means both Libra and Scorpio are the inimical signs.
Venus
Venus rules Taurus and Libra. It is exalted in Pisces and debilitated in Virgo. Leo and Scorpio are the inimical signs and the rest (six signs) are friendly ones.
Saturn
Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius. It is exalted in Libra and debilitated in Aries. Cancer, Leo, and Scorpio are the inimical signs while the other five are friendly ones.
Rahu and Ketu

Rahu and Ketu rule Aquarius. They (both) are exalted in Cancer and Scorpio, and debilitated in Taurus. Leo is the inimical sign and the other seven are friendly ones. They aspect the third and eleventh signs.

Good evening Sir, since Pulippani Siddhar mentions that Sani, Rahu and Ketu rules Aquarius,
Can we consider that these 3 planets are the Ascendant Lord for the people born during the duration of Aquarius Ascendant?
And also,
How to determine which among these 3 planets plays a much important role in the individual person’s life?
I’m curiously waiting for an answer from you Sir, Thank you very much.

This is a very pertinent question, but i have no clear answer as this has not been mentioned by sage Pulippani anywhere in his treatise. The only way to answer this question is to look for clues in saptarishi nadi. I don’t pretend to know every answer. Once I learn something about this during the course of my research, I will let you know.

Thank you sir, for the reply.
Sir I have got 2 more questions that is:
The first one: Whether the rulership of Aquarius ascendant has got to do with the dignities of the 3 planets in an individual’s horoscope (especially their placement in either their ruling, exaltation, friends, enemies, and debilitation sign in Rasi Chart and Navamsa Chart).
And also,
The second one: If the person’s Navamsa Chart Lagna is different from the Rasi Chart Lagna will that effect the role the planets will play in the individual persons life? Let’s say, taking into account the hypothetical birth of a pair of twins – the second twin was born 17 minutes apart from her elder fraternal twin brother, both are born in Aquarius Ascendant according to their Rasi Chart but their Ascendant changes in their Navamsa Chart – The boy is born in Aries Ascendant while the girl is born in Taurus ascendant (whereby it’s common for the same twins to be born in the same ascendant in Rasi Chart – changes on average of 2 hours, but there’s a high likely chance for the ascendant to change in the Navamsa Chart – changes every 13 minutes 20 seconds). Now which planets will have an important role in both the fraternal twins life? The Rasi Chart Ascendant Ruler (Saturn, Rahu or Ketu – for both the boy and the girl) or the Navamsa Chart Ascendant Ruler (Mars – for the boy and Venus – for the girl)?

Thank you sir, for the reply. (My second reply wasn’t so clear so this is my third reply with examples).
Sir I have got 2 more questions that is:
The first one: Whether the rulership of Aquarius ascendant has got to do with the dignities of the 3 planets in an individual’s horoscope (especially their placement in either their ruling, exaltation, friends, enemies, and debilitation sign in Rasi Chart and Navamsa Chart)?
Example: An hypothetical individual person (hypothetical name Sophia) is born in Aquarius Ascendant which is the same in both the Rasi Chart and Navamsa Chart, Sophia’s Saturn is debilitated in Aries (Rasi Chart) while he’s in Leo (Navamsa Chart), Sophia’s Rahu is in Virgo (Rasi Chart) while he’s in Taurus in (Navamsa Chart), and Sophia’s Ketu is in Pisces (Rasi Chart) while he’s in Scorpio in (Navamsa Chart). Now who is to be considered as the Ascendant Lord for Sophia?
And also this time a different scenario,
The second one: If the person’s Navamsa Chart Lagna is different from the Rasi Chart Lagna will that effect the role the planets will play in the individual persons life?
Example: Let’s say, taking into account the hypothetical birth of a pair of twins – the second twin (Hypothetical name – Emma) was born 17 minutes apart from her elder fraternal twin brother (Hypothetical name – Daniel) both are born in Aquarius Ascendant according to their Rasi Chart but their Ascendant changes in their Navamsa Chart – The boy is born in Aries Ascendant while the girl is born in Taurus ascendant (whereby it’s common for the same twins to be born in the same ascendant in Rasi Chart which changes on an average of 2 hours, but there’s a high likely chance for the ascendant to change in the Navamsa Chart which changes every 13 minutes 20 seconds). Now which ascendant planets will have an important role in both the fraternal twins life? The Rasi Chart Ascendant Ruler (Saturn, Rahu or Ketu – for both the boy and the girl) or the Navamsa Chart Ascendant Ruler (Mars – for the boy and Venus – for the girl)

Good day, sir I wanted to know whether Rahu and Ketu are 2 different body parts of the same snake (Head of Serpent – Rahu and Tail of Serpent – Ketu)? Or are they 2 different snakes by themselves (Karunagam – Rahu and Cennagam – Ketu)?

According to the legends, when the amrut (potion which gives immortality) was churned out of the milky ocean, one of the asuras drank it, disguised as a deva. On learning this, Lord Vishnu cut his head off. But as he had already drunk the amrut, he was immortal. The head of the asura joined with a snake body and became Rahu. The body of the asura along with the snake’s head became Ketu. Yes, to answer your question, they are different parts of the same asura/snake.

But then why some Tamil Astrological books gave different names and different mythological stories to Rahu and Ketu (The names for Rahu is Karum Pambu/Karunagam which means a King Cobra/Ophiophagus hannah and the name for Ketu is Cem Pambu/Cennagam which means Spectacled Cobra/Naja naja)
As for the mythological story, Rahu is actually considered the incarnation of Shakthi, while Ketu is considered as the incarnation of Inthiran…
This also seems to show that Rahu and Ketu are two different entities/snakes by themselves…
