Aries – Jatakam 6

1சந்திரன் பொன்சேய்ராகு தகரதில் சனியுமாதை
புந்தியு மிரவிசாடி புகர்மானில் கேதுகோலாம்
இந்தவாறு கிரகம்நின்று லக்கினம் கொச்சைதாவ
அந்ததோர் சேதியெவ்வார் அறிவிப்பீர் முனியேநீதான்

Parvati asks the rishi to tell the results of a horoscope having the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and Rahu in Aries; Saturn in Virgo; Mercury and Sun in Aquarius; Venus in Capricorn; Ketu in Libra; with Aries Lagna.

About the birth of the native

2உத்தமி கேட்கும்போது உரைக்கிறார் பராசர்தானும்
வித்தக னாண்பால்சென்மம் வந்தயில் வடதென்வீதி
பத்திய கீழ்பால்வாசல் பாலகன் கணேசன்தெற்கில்
சத்தியு மீனதிக்கில் சங்கரன் கோஷ்டம்தானே

When Parvati asked like this, Parasara starts telling. This great person is a male birth. The house where he was born is situated in a street running north-south and the main door is facing the east. There is a temple for Lord Ganesa in the south, a temple for Goddess Sakthi in the north, and a temple of Lord Shankara (Shiva)…

3தென்திசை துருவமோடும் சிறப்பான செட்டுஓங்கும்
மன்னர்கள் வாசமாகும் மருவிய பேரூராகும்
யின்னமும் பலதேவாசம் இலகிய சோலையுண்டு
அன்னையின் இல்லம்தோன்றும் அம்பிகை யாளேகேளாய்

(Continued from previous verse) is in the south. The place is in the northern part, with a growing business; Kings live here. In such a big place, with many more houses the native was born. Beautiful grove is also there. He will be born in his mother’s house. Listen! Ambike! (The other name of Parvati).

Native’s mother’s house

4இன்னவன் செனனமிருப்பிட மதற்குஈரேழு கடிகைதூரத்தில்
மன்னிய வாயவில் தந்தையின் ஊராம் வடதெற்கு வீதியேயாகும்
சின்னவூர் குடகுவாசலாம் உத்திரம்தேவிமா காளியுவாசம்
பின்னமாம் குடியும் சினகுலமாகும் பெரிதான இல்லமெயென்றோம்

At a distance of 14 ghatika (nazhikai) from the place stated above, his father’s house is in the direction indicated by the great Vayu (Air) which is the north-west, and the house is in the north-south street. The door-way is facing west. It is a small town. In the north, Goddess Kali resides. The house is a little dilapidated. He was born in a Jain community. House is a big one.

In olden days, the distance between places was stated in ghatikas or nazhikai from a reference place. One ghatika or nazhikai is equal to 24 minutes of time. So, if a place is situated at one nazghikai, it will take 24 minutes to reach that place by walk. Here, 14 ghatikas means 14 x 24 minutes will be the time required to reach the place of native’s mother from his father’s place.

5தந்தைதாய் யோகம்தானும் தன்துணை களத்திரபுத்திரர்
வந்தவன் முன்னாட்செய்கை வரைகிறோம் யோகச்சேதி
பிந்திய சென்மம்யாவும் பேசுவா மிந்நூல்தன்னில்

We will tell about the fortunes of his father and mother, siblings, as well as wife and children. Also, we will tell about the previous birth, the various results for this birth, and the next birth of the native too. Oh! Begetter of Lord Kanda (Subramanya), we will talk about all these in this book.

Father’s family

6தாதையின் வர்க்கம்தன்னை சாற்றுவோம் ஆண்பால்ரெண்டு
சந்ததம் தீர்க்கமெய்தும் சலிப்புறும் இரண்டுமூன்று
அந்தவர் ஒன்றாய்வாழ்வர் அறைகிறோம் தந்தைசேதி
விந்தையாய்ப் பேசவல்லன் வாததே கத்தானாகும்

We will tell about the family of the father. He will have two brothers who will have a long life. Two or three will perish. They will live together. We will tell about the father. He is capable of talking jokingly. Will have a vata constitution.

Characteristics of the father

7பயிர்த்தொழில் செய்வானாகும் பரஉப காரியாவன்
தயவுள மனத்தனாகும் தானிரு நிறத்தனாகும்
அயலார்பொன் னிச்சையில்லான் அண்டினோர்க் குதவிசெய்வன்
பயமிலான் எதிரிக்கஞ்சான் பகவானின் பக்திகொள்வன்

He will do agriculture. Be helpful to others. Is a kind hearted man. Will have a double-colored body. Will not be interested in others’ wealth. Will assist those who approach him. Will have no fear. Will not be afraid of enemies. Will be devoted to God.

8வித்தையும் புத்திமானாம் விளைபுலம் விருத்திசெய்வன்
உத்தம னாகிவாழ்வன் ஒண்டொடி தனக்குஇஷ்டன்
சுத்தவான் அருகர்பத்தி தொடுத்ததை வெல்வானாகும்
சித்திர இல்லம்செய்வன் தீரமில்லாத நெஞ்சம்

A learned and an intelligent person. He will increase the production of agricultural products. He will be living with greatness. Will be dear to his wife. Is a pure man. Will be devoted to a Jain God (Aruhar).  Whatever he undertakes, he will be successful in it. Will construct a beautiful house. Will have a mind lacking in courage.

9அன்னையு மிரண்டுமாகும் அடிமைஏர் குடிகளுண்டு
பொன்பொருள் கையிருப்பு பிதுராஸ்தி விருத்திசெய்வன்
சொன்னசொல் பிசகிராது தோகையர் மனத்தனாகும்
தன்கரம் விஷேடரேகை சங்குசக் கரமுமுள்ளான்

He will have two mothers. Will have servants. He will carefully increase without loss gold, property, and cash balance. There will be no mistakes in the words stated by him. Will be attracted towards women.  A wealthy hand with special lines in his palm, with conch and wheel.

10கோலது ராசியாகும் குறித்தபூ ராடநாளாம்
வேளென ஒப்பதாகும் விருந்தினர் பிரியனாகும்
காலத்தை அறிந்துரைப்பான் கருதிடான் கட்டுவார்த்தை
ஞாலமேல் சல்லியங்கொள்ளான் நவின்றைக் குணத்தானுக்கு

His Janma rasi is Libra. He was born in Purvashada Nakshatra. A benefactor. Will be offering food with kindness to guests. Capable of telling the fortunes of others. Will never think of fabricated words. Will not borrow. To such a person of character.. (continued in next verse)

12அன்னைசொல் கடவானாகும் ஆவுகள் விருத்திசெய்வன்
நன்னிய வசனமுள்ளான் நாவலர்க் கரிதாய்யீவன்
அன்னிய ருறவுகொள்வன் அவனிள மனத்தனாகும்
பொன்னது கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல் புதையல்கள்செய்வானாமே

He will not reject the words of his mother. Will increase the cows. Will talk apt words. Will donate to those who are learned. Will get the friendship of others. Has a tender mind akin to that of a child. Will do lending and borrowing business. Will bury the wealth.

13வாகன முடையனாகும் மாற்றலர் தனைசெயிப்பன்
யோகவான் தந்தைமேலாய் உத்தமன் வாழ்வானாகும்
ஆகம நுணுக்கம்தேர்வன் அருகர்தன் பத்திகொள்வன்
போகபாக் கியங்களுள்ளான் புவிமீதில் செட்டுசெய்வன்

He will have vehicles. Will conquer the enemies. Will be a fortunate person. Will live in a higher status than his father. Will be devoted to the Jain God. Will have happiness and prosperity. Will do business.

Siblings of the native

14இன்னவன் துணைவர்தன்னை இயம்பமுன் துணைகள்காணான்
பிந்துணை விருத்தியென்றோம் பேசுவோ மாண்பால்ரெண்டு
கன்னிகை அவ்வாறாகும் காளைநே ரிளையோர்தோஷம்
மன்னிய நான்காம்சென்மம் மாதைபூ ரட்டைநாளாம்

16பலவித வணிபம்செய்வன் பணத்தின்மே லிச்சையுள்ளான்
கலகமா மனத்தனாகும் கட்டுவார்த் தைகளும்சொல்வன்
பலமுள குடும்பியாவன் பூமியில் வறுமைகாணான்
குலவிடும் பித்தசூடு கோமளி ஒன்றேயாகும்

Will be doing many kinds of business. Is an avaricious person. Will have a disturbed mind. Will tell fabricated words. Will get a strong family. Will not face poverty. Will be subjected to Pitha disease. Wife will be one only.

17வடதிசை அணுகுமென்றோம் மைந்தர்கள் ஆண்பாலொன்று
அடவுடன் பெண்பாலவ்வாறு அணுகிடு மிவனுக்கேதான்
உடன்கூடி வாழ்வானாகும் உத்தம னிளையோன்சேதி
விடமசென்மம் அவிட்டநாளில் மேவுவான் மாஞ்சிவப்பன்

His wife will come from the northern direction. There will be one male child and one female child. He will live with all of them. We will tell about the next younger brother. He will be born in Taurus lagna and Dhanishta Nakshatra. Will be light red in colour.

18பலபேர்கள் மதிக்கவாழ்வன் பரஉப காரியாவன்
நிலமது அதிகம்சேர்ப்பன் நிருபர்கள் இஷ்டம்கொள்வன்
நலமுள புகழுமேற்பன் நற்சுகி போசனத்தான்
கலகமும் கூறுநெஞ்சம் கஞ்சமாம் ரேகையுள்ளான்

He will live adored by many. He is a benefactor. Will increase the land holdings. Will be desired by the Kings. Will attain fame. Will eat tasty and comfortable food. Has a rebellious mind. Will have lotus lines in hand.

19அனைவர்க்கு மேலாய்வாழ்வன் தொல்புவி புகழுமேற்பன்
துணைவனோ டொத்துவாழ்வன் சுந்தரி ஒன்றேயாகும்
கனமுள ஆண்பால்ரெண்டு கன்னிகை ஒன்றேதீர்க்கம்
வினையதை எண்ணாநெஞ்சம் விளம்புவோம் மேலுங்கேளே

Will live in a higher status than all. Will get name and fame on earth. Will live peacefully with his brother. Will have only one wife. He will have two male children and one female child. This is definite. Will never have an evil mind. We will tell more.

Marriage of the native

20பிறந்தசேய் மணத்தின்காலம் பேசுவோம் பதினேழாண்டில்
உறைந்திடும் தென்கீழ்தன்னில் உத்தமி அன்னைவர்க்கம்
பெருமையும் புகழுமுள்ளாள் புண்ணிய மனத்தளாகும்
நிறையவே குடும்பியாவள் நீங்காத செல்வமுள்ளாள்

We will tell about the marriage of the native. He will get married at the age of 17 years to a girl who will come from the south east from the maternal side. She will have greatness and glory. She will have a virtuous mind. Will become a good family woman. Will have imperishable wealth.

21மத்தியில் மரணமாகி மறுமனை நேருமென்றோம்
வித்தகர் பராசர்சொல்ல விருதரும் கேட்கலுற்றார்
பத்தினி இரண்டுஎன்று பகர்ந்தினீர் விவரம்சொல்வாய்
குத்தமா யேழில்கேது குறித்தயேழ் பத்தில்நிற்க

In the middle, the native’s wife will die, and he will get a second wife. When Parasarar stated like this, another aged rishi asked the reason for two wives. Parasarar reasoned that Ketu is in the 7th house and Venus is in the 10th house.

Parasara in his Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra, Chapter 18, Verse 6 has stated that If the 7^th lord is in a sign of Saturn or of Venus and be aspected by a benefic, there will be many wives. Here the 7^th lord Venus is in Capricorn, a sign of Saturn but there is no aspect of benefic planets. Also Verse 22 of Chapter 24 needs to be noted here. If the 2^nd lord (in this case Venus) is in the 10^th house, the native will be libidinous, honourable, learned, will have many wives and much wealth but bereft of filial happiness. The chapter numbers here are taken from Sri R.Santhanam’s translation.

22சரமதி லிருப்பதாலே சாற்றினோம் தாரம்ரெண்டு
வருமனை கர்ப்பத்தாலே மரணமாய் ரெண்டாமாது
உரைந்திடு முப்பான்ரெண்டில் உத்தமி வடக்கில்நேரும்
பெறுஞ்சுதர் ஆண்பால்ரெண்டு பேதையு மவ்வாறாகும்

Because Venus is placed in a movable Rasi, we said there will be two wives. She will die when she is pregnant. In his 32nd year, he will get his second wife. She will come from the northern side. She will beget two male and two female children.

23அன்னைமாஞ் சிவப்பளாகும் ஆளனுக் கினியளாகும்
நன்னிய வசனமுள்ளாள் நற்புத்தி யோகசாலி
அன்னியர்க் குதவிசெய்வள் அறமதி லிச்சையுள்ளாள்
பொன்பணி யிச்சையுண்டு புகலுமும் கோபம்கொஞ்சம்

Mother will be slightly reddish in colour. Will be dear to her husband. Will talk appropriately. Will have good understanding. Will be fortunate. Will help others. Will be interested in righteous deeds. Will have desire in gold ornaments. A little short-tempered.

Siblings of the mother/her previous birth

24தன்துணை ஆண்பாலொன்று தையலர் நான்குதீர்க்கம்
தென்கீழ்பால் இல்லமாகும் தேவியின் பூர்வம்சொல்வேன்
பன்னக மணிந்தோன்வாழும் பாண்டியின் தென்பால்சிற்றூர்
முன்குல மதனிலுதித்து உயர்வான குடும்பியாகி

She will have one brother and four sisters, who are long lived. Her house will be in the south eastern side. We will tell about her previous birth. She was born in a small village to the south of Madurai where the snake-draped Lord Shiva resides. Became a member of a large family.

Mother’s next birth

25பவமது யில்லாதாகி பரந்தனள் காலன்பக்கல்
அவனியில் பிரமன்லக்கம் அருகர்தன் குலமுதித்தாள்
நவனியில் வறுமைகாணாள் நாயகி பின்சென்மத்தை
தவசியே சொல்லுகின்றேன் தக்கோல மருகில்பேரூர்

Without any bad karma, she died early. Because of Brahma, then took birth in a Jain community in this present life. Will never experience poverty. I will tell about her next birth. Oh! Ascetic, listen. In a big town near a place called Thakkolam, (Continued in next verse)

Native’s previous birth

26பிறப்பளாம் பிரம்மசேயாய் பலமுள குடும்பியாகி
அறமதி லிச்சையுண்டாய் அவளுமே வாழ்வாளாகும்
திருமகன் பூர்வம்சொல்வேன் தேயுவின் அருகில்உத்திரம்
குரவர்தன் குலமுதித்து கோவலர் பக்கம்சார்ந்து

She will be born as a Brahmin. She will have a big family. She will be interested in doing righteous things. Next, we will tell about the native’s previous birth. To the north of Tiruvannamalai, he will be born in the Kuravar community and will side with the King.

27அதிகார முடையனாகி அழகிய மனைவிமைந்தர்
வதிவனு வாழும்நாளில் வரைகிறோ மூழிதானும்
மதிமுக மாதுதானும் வரனின்றி தாயில்லத்தில்
சதியில வாழுநாளில் தானவன் அவள்மேல்மோகம்

He had an authoritative position. When he was living with his family, a bad Karma came upon him. A widow with a face resembling that of a Moon was living in her parental house. He saw her and fell in love with her.

28பொன்பணி தூசுதந்து போகங்க ளனுபவித்தான்
தன்பந்து அதையறிந்து தைய்யலை விலக்கும்போது
இன்னவன் காக்கலுற்றான் இருந்துபின் சிலநாள்சென்று
உன்னத கருவுதங்க உத்தமன் கேள்விப்பட்டு

He gave lot of money and gold to her and made her accept him and started enjoying with her. When her relations came to know of this, they sent her away. He provided shelter to her. This was going on for some time and she became pregnant. When he came to know of this… (Continued in next verse).

29வினைசெய்தான் கருவுதன்னை வித்தகி மரணமானாள்
பிணையாக இன்னமொன்று பேசுவோம் தாயேயாங்கள்
கனமிலா ஏழையோர்கள் காவலன் தன்பால்சென்று
மணம்சுதர் தனக்குச்செய்ய மாங்கிலியம் தருவாயென்ன

(continued from previous verse) He tried to destroy the fetus, but this wise girl died in the process. We will tell one more thing, Mother! When some poor people requested him for assistance for the mangalyam sutra regarding marriage for their children

30ஆசைவார்த் தைகளைச்சொல்லி அந்திய காலம்தன்னில்
கூசாமல் இல்லையென்றான் கூறுவார் ஏழையோர்கள் 
நேசம்போல் வார்த்தைசொல்லி நேராமல் கைவிரித்தாய்
வாசமா மனைவிமாண்டு மறுமனை வாய்க்குமன்றி

By speaking loving words he initially promised to help them, but then at the last moment, he refused. The poor people cursed him that as he has deceived them at the last moment, his wife will die and remarry.

31மறுசென்மம் தோன்றியேதான் மனைவிக ளிருவராகும்
வருங்கர்ப்பத் தாலேமாண்டு மறுமுனை நேருமென்று
உரைத்துப்பின் சென்றாரென்றோம் உறைந்தது அந்ததோஷம்
இருமனை யாகியேதான் ஏகினன் காலன்பக்கம்

In the next birth too, he will get two wives; the first wife will die during pregnancy. That blemish came upon him. After getting two wives in the previous birth, he died.

32கஞ்சனால் வரியப்பட்டு காளையு மிச்சென்மத்தில்
மிஞ்சிய சினகுலத்தில் மேவின னென்றுசொல்வோம்
பஞ்சைகள் சாபமொன்று பற்றிய கருவின்தோஷம்
அஞ்சாமல் நேருமென்றோம் அணுகிடும் பாரிரெண்டு

Destined by Brahma, he was reborn in this present birth in the Jain community. The curse of the poor will operate during this birth definitely, and hence we said that there will be two wives.

General results of the native

33வந்தவன் பொதுயோகத்தை வரைகிறோம் கேதாரயோகம்
சந்ததம் வேசியோகம் சங்குசக் கரயோகங்கள்
இந்தவாறு யோகம்சொல்வோம் இயம்புவோம் பலனையாங்கள்
முந்தின குடும்பியாவன் உயர்வோர்கள் பக்திபூண்பன்

We will tell about the general yogas of the native. He has Kedara Yoga, Vesi yoga, and ‘Shanku Chakra Yogas’. We will tell the results for the same. He is an excellent family man.  Will be respectful towards elders.

34பலஊரில் பூமிசேர்ப்பன் பாக்கிய முடையவனாவன்
தலமது வேறுசெய்வன் தனமது இருப்புகொள்வன்
பலமுளோர் வசியம்கொள்வன் புகழுளான் பகைநாசம்தான்
குலவிடு மூன்றுஇல்லம் குலத்துக்கு மேலாய்வாழ்வன்

He will accumulate lands in many places. Will be fortunate. Will change his residence to another place. Will accumulate money. Will influence men of strength. Will be famous. Will destroy his enemies. Will be owning three houses. Will be living with a high status amongst his kinsmen.

35பொருளது பூமிதன்னால் பொருந்திடும் பதினேழாண்டில்
பிறைதிசை சனிபுத்தி வருங்காலம் நேருமென்றோம்
திருமகன் குடும்பச்சேதி செல்லுவார் இருபானாலில்
தி(?)ரிபாக மாகச்சொல்வோம் செல்விதி மேலுங்கேளே

Wealth will increase on account of the land holdings. In his 17th year, during the Moon Mahadasa, Saturn Antardasa this will happen. We will tell about the family details of the native. During his 24th year, his father’s family will become separate and the property of his grandfather will be divided into three parts. Listen! Wealthy lady.

The conjunction of 4^th Kendra lord with the 9^th trikona lord Jupiter in the Lagna Kendra (Kona) along with the Lagna lord gives rise to many fortunes especially in their dasas and antardasas. Here, there is also a parivartana or exchange of houses between Saturn and Mercury. Mercury is not a benefic planet for this Lagna. Saturn is half benefic. So, Saturn has on account of his ownership of the 10^th house has given the benefits.

36எண்ணஞ்சு ஆறுஆண்டில் இவன்துணை வேறாய்செல்வர்
வண்ணமாய் பாகமூன்று மருவிடும் என்றுசொல்வோம்
திண்ணமாய் கடையோன்தானும் சிறப்புற்று வாழ்வானாகும்
அண்ணலைப் பூசைசெய்யும் அம்பிகை யாளேகேளாய்

In his 46th year, his brothers will go separate. The property will be divided equally into 3 parts. Definitely, the last brother will live elegantly. The rishi addresses Parvati as the one does Puja of Lord Shiva and request her to listen further.

Father’s previous birth

37தந்தையின் பூர்வம்சொல்வேன் தென்கயி லாயம்தன்னில்
வந்தனன் வைசியசேயாய் வளமுள செட்டுசெய்து
நொந்தபோர்க் குதவிசெய்து நேமியில் தலங்கள்சென்று
விந்தையாய் மார்க்கம்தன்னில் விடாய்தாகப் பந்தல் வைத்தும்

We will tell about the previous birth of the native’s father. He was born in Kalahasti as a Vaisya child. Did an expanding and profitable business, helped those who were in trouble. Visited the Siva temples and worshipped. Wonderfully established water sheds in many roads.

38காலன்தன் பதிக்குப்புக்கி கஞ்சனால் வரியப்பட்டு
சீலமாங் குலத்திலேதான் செனித்தவ னிவனேயென்றோம்
ஞாலமேல் வறுமைகாணான் நசித்தோர்க் குதவிசெய்வன்
பால்பாக்கிய முடையனாகும் பத்தினி கேட்டிடாயே

Went to the abode of Yama and was born again in this higher community in this present birth due to the writings of Brahma. He will never see poverty during his lifetime. Will assist those who are depressed and poor. Have many milk-yielding cows. Listen! Chaste Woman!

Father’s next birth

39பின்சென்மம் வடமேல்திக்கில் பெருமட மயிக்குலத்தில்
அன்னவ னுதிப்பானாகும் அருகர்தன் பூசைபூண்டு
துன்னிய தேவனாக தோன்றுவா னிவனேயென்றோம்
உன்னத தவங்கள்செய்யும் உத்தமி கேட்டிடாயே

His next birth will be in north west in a big house in the same community. Due to the worship of the Jain God, he will be born as a God’s gift. Will perform penance towards God. Listen, Great woman!

Time of death

40முப்பது ஆண்டுதன்னில் மூலமா தத்திலேதான்  
செப்பு வோம் தந்தை கெண்டம்
அப்போது பணியின்சக்கரம் (?)அரவுதன் புத்தியாகும்
இப்படி பராசர்சொல்ல இயம்புவார் அத்திரிதானே

Father will die when the native is of 30 years old in the month of Mula. At that time, he will be running Rahu dasa, Rahu Antardasa. When Parasara stated like this Atiri rishi started telling.

41ஈராறு ஆண்டுதன்னில் இயம்புவோம் தந்தைகெண்டம்
பாரினில் அஞ்சோன்லாபம் பற்றினதிசையில் சொல்வோம்
கூரியன் பரிதியோடு கூடியே யிருப்பதாலே
