An exalted planet is in its strongest state. As a result, an exalted planet in one’s horoscope is commonly considered favorable for the jataka. Then, having many exalted planets should work wonders for the jataka, right? For instance, Sri Ram’s horoscope has five exalted planets. But what happens when one exalted planet aspects another? Is it beneficial or detrimental to the prospects of the jataka?
There is a saying in Tamil, “உச்சனை உச்சன் பார்த்தால் பிச்சை எடுப்பான்”, which means that the jataka will become a pauper under such circumstances. Is that true? Fortunately, saptarishis have a definitive answer.
Saptarishi Nadi
Saptarishi Nadi is a collection of books containing discussions of horoscopes by the seven sages (saptarishis) and the consort of Lord Siva, Devi Parvati, herself. It is written in poetic form in the Tamil language. These books were compiled from palm manuscripts found in various parts of Tamilnadu, India, and published by the Government Oriental Manuscripts Library, Madras. Most importantly, they are a treasure house for those who want to analyze the predictions of the horoscopes by the ancient sages. I have discussed at length about this collection in the Saptarishi Nadi section. I have compiled the portions where the saptarishis put forth their arguments in favor of/against some of their predictions in the form of an eBook titled, “Elucidation of astrological predictions by saptarishis: Saptarishi Nadi, Aries ascendant collection.”
When one exalted planet aspects another
In horoscope 39 of my eBook, the sages describe the following planetary position:
The ascendant is Aries. The exalted planets are Venus, Jupiter, Ketu, the Sun, and the Moon. Certainly, Ketu is exalted in Scorpio, and Rahu is debilitated in Taurus! To clarify, the saptarishis have unequivocally declared the exaltation and debilitation signs of Rahu and Ketu elsewhere in their works.
When sage Athiri predicts that the jataka will occupy a high position under a king, Parvati devi questions the rationale for that prediction. Sage Athiri replies that it is because of the exalted planets.
But sage Vashishtar says that as Jupiter aspects Venus, and the Moon aspects Ketu,
உச்சனை உச்சன்பார்க்க உரையாது விசேஷயோகம்
As one exalted planet aspects another, one cannot predict special results for the exaltation.
Sage Athiri goes on to justify his prediction: the jataka enjoys Vesi yoga and Saamara yoga in addition to the favorable placement of Mercury, Mars, and the Sun in the ascendant.
The answer is …
So what happens when one exalted planet aspects another?
- No, they do not make one a pauper.
- The exalted planets do not, I repeat, do not turn into monsters.
- They do not bring about any detrimental results either.
However, no special results can be predicted that exalted planets normally tend to bestow upon the jataka.
In short, no harm done.
Please note that the saptarishis used a tropical zodiac with sidereal nakshatras — which I have established conclusively in another article — and the rules discussed in Saptarishi Nadi were intended for interpretation of a chart computed with tropical zodiac, as opposed to sidereal zodiac.

Sir, I have a question to ask you, Did our Saptarishi’s mentioned about the aspects of Rahu and Ketu?

Excellent question! I have read almost five ascendant collections in the Saptarishi Nadi series, and till now i have not come across a single mention of Rahu/Ketu aspecting other planets/houses. This leads me to suspect if Rahu/Ketu have any aspects at all, according to the saptarishis. Unless and otherwise i come across a mention of the aspects of Rahu/Ketu in saptarishi Nadi, I think that Rahu/Ketu do not have any aspects at all.

Hi sir
Exaltation of ketu and
Rahu is scorpio.
Debilitation of ketu and Rahu is taurus.
So if ketu in taurus and ketu dispositor Venus is exalted
What will be the result of debilitation ketu?
Please clear my doubt sir

I think the general principles regarding neecha bhanga should hold good here. Kindly go through my article on neecha bhanga yoga. If in addition to being exalted, if the dispositor is located in a Kendra to the moon, neecha bhanga will be in effect.
