Will be a competent and skilful man. An erudite person. Will augment his father’s wealth. Will have a doubtful mind.

5பிறர்பொருள் இச்சைவையான் பேதையர் மோகனாவன்
அரிபத்தி கொள்வானாகும் ஆண்மையும் சீலனாவன்
மருமத்தை வெளிக்காட்டாதான் மலர்கரம் ருத்திரரேகை
குறையென்றோர்க் குதவிசெய்வன் குணமது இரண்டுமுண்டு

Will not be interested in the wealth of others. Will be infatuated towards women. Will have devotion to Lord Vishnu. A man of good disposition and conduct. Will not disclose his secret. He will have Rudra rekha (crease) in his hand. Will assist those who are in need. Will have both good and bad characteristics.

6மாந்தளிர் மேனியாவன் மாற்றானை லகுவில்வெல்வன்
கூர்ந்துமே வார்த்தைசொல்வன் கூறிய குணத்தானுக்கு
நேர்ந்திடும் துணைஆண்ஒன்று நிமலியு மவ்வாறாகும்
சாந்தமாய் பின்பாகத்தில் சாற்றுவோ மவர்கள்சேதி

His complexion will be akin to the sprout of a mango leaf. Will be capable of winning the enemies easily. Will talk carefully. To such a person of character, one brother and one sister will be there. We will tell about them leisurely in the later chapter.

நல்லவர் பலர்களாலே நாட்டினில் புகழுமேற்பன்
தல்லியின் தந்தைக்கிஷ்டன் தமையனை ஆதரிப்பன்

The 21^st year will start from 04-05-1897. At that time, he will be running Rahu dasa, as Rahu dasa starts from 25-07-1895. The duration of Rahu Antardasa is 2 years, 8 months, and 12 days, and Rahu Antara will end on 07-01-1898. During this period, the native gets married. Rahu is in Aquarius (owned by Saturn) along with Saturn. Rahu is in Satabishang Nakshatra owned by him. He is in the 11^th house of marriage from where he will be aspecting the 7^th house.

Regarding children, we do not find enough strength in his chart. Even if it happens, she will only be in trouble. When Athiri rishi stated like that, Brighu rishi asked the reason why the native will not have children.

19அஞ்சினில் கேதுதங்க ஆரலும் காரிபார்க்க
துஞ்சிடும் மதலையென்றோம் செயமுனி கூறுகின்றார்
தஞ்சமாய்ப் பொன்னோன்பார்க்க சனித்திடும் குழவிதானும்
மிஞ்சிய சென்மம்தன்னில் மேவிற்று வினைகள்தானே

As Ketu is placed in the 5th house, and Saturn and Mars aspect the 5th house, children if born will die. Jeyamuni states that as Jupiter aspects the 5th house, children will be born. But Athiri says that the past karma will affect him.

Native’s previous life

20முன்வினை சொல்லுமென்ன விளம்புவார் அத்திரிதானும்
அன்னவன் பூர்வம்தன்னில் …க்கு மேற்கில்
சின்னஊர் தன்னிலேதான் செனித்தனன் இக்குலத்தில்
தன்மனை மதலையுண்டாய் தானவன் வாழுநாளில்

When asked to tell the past Karma, Athiri started telling. In his earlier birth, he was born in a small place in this caste. While living at that time with wife and child, (continued in next verse)

21வினையதைப் புகலக்கேண்மோ விதவையாம் மனைவிதங்கை
வதிபதி போகம்துய்த்து வருநாளில் கருவுதங்கி
சதிசெய்தான் பண்டிதத்தால் தங்கின கருவுநீங்கி
இதுபோலே மூன்றுசெய்தான் எய்திற்று அந்தத்தோஷம்

(continuation from previous verse) there came a bad karma about which I will tell now. Listen. His wife’s younger sister was a widow. The native in his earlier birth was intimate with her, on account of which she became pregnant. But with the help of medicines, he aborted the fetus thrice. Because of this, Putra dosha (childlessness) came upon him.

22வேறது துன்பங்காணான் வித்தகன் அந்தியத்தில்
நாரியும் மரணமாகி நற்சுதர் பகையுமாகி
மாரனும் காலன்பக்கல் மருவியே பிரமன்லக்கம்
பாரினில் வந்தானென்றோம் பரவிற்று முன்னூழ்தோஷம்

But he did not do any other evil things. He lost his wife and had enmity with his children and finally died. Then according to calculations, Brahma created him and the native is reborn. The past Karma affected him in this birth.

Remedy for putra dosha

23சுதருக்குத் தோஷமெய்தும் சொல்லுவோ மதற்குச்சாந்தி
வதிபனும் மனைவியோடு வள்ளூறு தனக்குச்சென்று
கதிதரு மாலுக்கேதான் கஞ்சமா மலர்கள்தன்னால்
சதியிலா சகஸ்திரம்சொல்லி நாளுக்கு அர்ச்சித்தேத்தி

So Putradosha (blemish of childlessness) came. We will tell a suitable remedy for the same. Both husband and wife should go to Tiruvallur and have darshan of Veeraraghava Perumal (Lord Vishnu) and should do archana (puja) by reciting Sahasra nama (thousand names of Lord Vishnu) and offer blemish-less flowers at the feet of the Lord… (continued in next verse)

24தன்குல மூவேழ்பேர்க்குத் த−கையு மன்பாயீந்து
தன்னக ரடைந்துயின்னோன் தான்மாலுக் கபிஷேகிக்க
முன்வினை நிவர்த்தியாகி உதித்தசேய் தீர்க்கமாகும்
இன்னவாறு செய்யானாகில் யிலகாது நசிக்குமென்றோம்

(Continuation from previous verse) He should provide food to 21 persons of his community, return to his place, and do abhisheka (pouring milk, curd, etc. over the idol) to Lord Vishnu. If he does so, the blemish created on account of his previous birth will be cleared, and he will beget children, who will live long. In case he does not do so, children will not be born. Even if born, they will die.

25சொற்படி செய்வானாகில் தோன்றிடும் சுதராண்ஒன்று
மைப்படி பெண்பால்ரெண்டு வரைகிறோம் தீர்க்கமாக
செப்புவோ மன்னைசேதி சிவந்திடு மேனியாவள்
தப்பித குணமில்லாதாள் சாந்தவாள் அடக்கமுண்டு

If he does as stated, he will get a male child and two female children. We will tell about the native’s mother. She will have a reddish complexion. Will have a blemish-less character. Will be patience personified. Will be a modest person.

26வரன்மனம் போலேவாழ்வாள் அவள்துணை ஆண்பால்முன்று
திருமக ளொப்பதாக செல்விமார் இரண்டுஎன்றோம்
உரைத்திட்ட துணைஆண்மூன்றில் ஒருவனும் வேறோர்ஆஸ்த்தி
மருவுவான் மத்தியந்தான் வார்த்தைகள் பிசகிச்சொல்வன்

Will live tuned to the mind of her husband. She will have three brothers and two sisters who will be like goddess Mahalakshmi. Out of the three brothers stated, one will go separate after some time. He will talk in an absurd manner.

27பித்தத்தால் பிதற்றலுண்டு புகழிலான் குணமில்லான்
சுத்தமு மில்லானாகும் சுயகியானம் காணானாகும்
அத்திரி புகலுகின்றார் அதுதீர சாந்திசொல்வாய்
குத்தங்கள் குத்தமேயாம் கூறுவோம் விபரம்ரெண்டில்

He will talk in a crazy manner. Will be a characterless person. Will not be a clean person. Will not have self-intelligence. After listening to this, Athiri requests a remedy for the same. But the sages reply that this blemish cannot be overcome, and further details will be discussed in the 2nd chapter.

Previous birth of mother

28மற்றவர் சுகமாய்வாழ்வர் வழக்குளார் செலவுமுள்ளார்
வித்தகி பூர்வம்சொல்வேன் விரிஞ்சிக்கு மேல்பாலாக
சிற்றூரில் வைசியசேயாய் செனித்துமே வறுமையின்றி
சுத்தமா னவர்க்குஅன்னம் தோகையு மளித்துமேதான்

Others will live comfortably. Will be spending on account of court cases. I will tell about the previous birth of the native’s mother. To the west of a place called Virinchipuram, in a small village in Vaisya community, she was born. She was living without poverty and was donating food and clothes to pure persons.

29பலவித தீர்த்தம்தோய்ந்து பரஉப காரியாயும்
குலவியே வாழ்ந்துயின்னோள் கூத்தன்தன் பதிக்குச்சென்று
தலைநான்கோன் வரியப்பட்டு சனித்தவ ளிவளேயென்றோம்
நலமுள தென்கீழ்தன்னில் நல்கிடும் வரனுமேதான்

Visited many holy places and took bath in the holy waters. Was living as a benevolent lady and went to the abode of Yama. Then, after creation by Brahma, took birth (as mother of the native). In this birth, she will get her husband from the southeast.

Next birth of mother

30மறுசென்மம் காளத்திதன்னில் மாதுவு மிக்குலத்தில்
வருகுவாள் சுகமுண்டாகி மால்பத்தி அதிகம்பூண்டு
உரைகுவாள் தேவராக உரைத்தது தப்பாதாகும்
அருமறை முடிவிலாடும் அம்பிகை யாளேகேளாய்

In her next birth, she will be born in Kalahasthi in the same community. Will be living with comfort and devotion to Lord Vishnu. The rishi addresses Parvati as the one who dances at the time of Sunset and asks her to listen further.

Previous birth of father

31தந்தையின் பூர்வம்சொல்வேன் சட்டனாதீசர் வாழும்
முந்திய ஊரிலேதான் உதித்தனன் சைவசேயாய்
வந்தவர்க் கன்னமீந்து மார்க்கத்தில் தாகப்பந்தல்
நொந்தபேர்க் குதவிசெய்து நேமியில் பவமில்லாமல்

I will tell about the previous birth of the native’s father. He was born in Sirkazhi, where Sattainathar (Lord Shiva) resides (meaning a temple for Lord Shiva is there) in Saiva community. Provided food to the hungry and constructed water sheds on the road (because in those days due to lack of transport people used to walk and such water sheds will be used by them to quench their thirst). Assisted those who were poor. Without any blemishes,

32காலனா டடைந்துஇன்னோன் கஞ்சனால் வரியப்பட்டு
சீலமாம் பிரம்மசேயாய் செனித்தவ னிவனேயென்றோம்
ஏலவே பின்சென்மங்கள் இயம்புவோம் காஞ்சிதன்னில்
கோலமா யிக்குலத்தில் உதிப்பானா மென்றுசொல்வோம்

(Continuation from previous verse) He reached the abode of Yama and Brahma created him again in this birth in Brahmin community. In his next births, he will be born in Kancheepuram in the same community (i.e. Brahmin community).

Death of the native’s parents

33இருபது ஆண்டிலேதான் ஏகுவான் மகரமாதம்
அரவுதன் திசையிலேதான் அவர்சுய புகுத்தியென்றோம்
திருமக னன்னைக்கேதான் செப்புவோம் முப்பான்ரெண்டில்
அரிமாதம் கெண்டம்நேரும் அம்மொழி தப்பாதாகும்

In his 20th year, during Rahu dasa, Rahu Antardasa, in the month of Capricorn (January to February) the native’s father will die. In his 32nd year, in the month of Leo (August-September), the native’s mother will die. Oh! Ambike! Our words will not go wrong.

As per our dasa calculation given at the beginning, we see that Rahu dasa starts on 16-03-1896, when he will be 18 years, 10 months, and 12 days; he will be 19 years old. Rahu dasa-Rahu Antardasa is till 28-11-1898. So, at the time of the death of his father, Rahu dasa-Rahu Antardasa was in operation.

Brihat Parasara Hora gives explanations for the death of the father of the native in Rahu period: Rahu or any malefic planet when placed with a maraka planet brings the end of life. Here Rahu is with Saturn, the 2^nd lord of maraka for the father (9^th house). Karaka for father is the Sun. Rahu is in the 11^th house of Badhakasthana and hence capable of inflicting death.

In his 32^nd year which will begin from May 1908 he will be running Rahu dasa as per our dasa calculations. The Antardasa table is given below:

He will be running Venus Antardasa at that time of his mother’s death. Rahu is placed in the 8^th house from the 4^th house of mother and is also in the 2^nd house of maraka from karaka of mother-M00n. Venus is lord of Badhakasthana for the 4^th house of mother and hence is malefic for the mother. Venus is placed along with Sun, the lord of 2^nd house of maraka for mother. Further, Venus is in the constellation of Bharani, ruled by Sun who becomes maraka lord for mother. From karaka Moon, Sun is the lord of 8^th house who joins Venus.

34அறுபது ஆறுஆண்டில் அழகிய மகரமாதம்
திருமக னுடலும்வாடும் செப்புவோ மிவன்பின்சென்மம்
பெருமையாய் துவாரைதன்னில் பிறப்பனா மிக்குலத்தில்

In his 66th year, in the month of Capricorn (January-February), the native will die. In his next birth, he will be born in Dwaraka in a Brahmin community. Oh! Parvati who gave birth to the elephant-headed God Vinayaka! Listen.

The 66^th year will begin on 04-05-1942 and the dasa that will be running at the time will be that of Saturn. The Antardasa of Moon will be from 18-02-1941 to 19-09-1942. Saturn is capable of bringing death as he is the Badhakasthana Lord and is placed in Badhakasthana along with another dire malefic Rahu. But why Moon Antardasa? Moon is lord of 4^th house and is placed in 10^th house. Mars, the Lagna lord has conjoined Moon. The most effective point for Moon to being about the death is it is the lord of 22^nd Drekkana as per Parasara and is capable bringing an end to the life.

37பந்துவால் நினைத்ததோங்கும் பாரினில் வறுமைகாணான்
விந்தையாய் வார்த்தைகூறுவன் வீண்வம்பு புகல்வானாகும்
சிந்தையும் தீரனாவன் சிறப்பான குடும்பியாவன்
தந்தனம் பின்னால்சேர்ப்பன் சதுஷ்பாதம் விருத்தியுள்ளான்

He will achieve what he wants through his relations. Will not see poverty on earth. Will talk wonderfully. He will be quarrelsome. Will have a strong mind. Will have a prosperous family. Will increase his ancestral property. Quadrupeds will increase.

38தோத்திரப் பிரியனாகும் தொடுத்ததை வெற்றிசெய்வன்
பாத்திர மறியவல்லன் பகைத்தோரை நாசம்செய்வன்
நீத்தார்க ளுறவுகொள்ளான் நிமலியர் மோகனாவன்
போத்தினோ மூவாயிரம் பொன்பூமியும் பணிகள்தானே

He will be interested in praises (by others). Will succeed in the work undertaken by him. Capable of understanding people. Will crush those who oppose him. Will not have any relationship with low class people. Will be infatuated towards women. He will accumulate 3000 gold coins (or equivalent) in his lifetime. Will increase the wealth and land holdings.

39இன்னமும் விபரமாக இயம்புவோம் ரெண்டிலேதான்
அன்னவன் செனனகாலம் அலரியின் திசையிருப்பு
மன்னிய ஆண்டுஒன்றும் மருவிடும் திங்கள்பத்தும்
இன்னவன் (ச)கடுறோம் எய்திடும் தந்தைக்கவ்வாறு
